Educational Programs
Learning through play
At NNOOSH we believe play is fundamental to learning and development, as well as an important end in it’s own right. Through play children explore, inquire, understand, reason and develop socially responsible attitudes. We encourage children’s self-confidence, capabilities and sense of belonging through an inquiry-led, child-centred approach.
Our programming is informed by the My Time Our Place Framework V2 (updated Feb 2023) for school age care and developed in partnership with children, their families and the community. Through a cycle of observation, planning, evaluation and reflection our program aims to extend and enrich children’s well-being and social development.
The Weekly Program
Our weekly program is available on the Parent noticeboard on the outside of the building and is colour coded to reflect the input of children, educators, parents/carers and links to reflective program journals and observations conducted by staff. The program has a comments/suggestions section to take further input or you can email us.
Red: indicating activities that are child/community generated (e.g. generated by children’s suggestions, conversations and family interactions)
Blue: indicating those which are educator generated (e.g. designed to introduce new skills or ideas)
Orange: that which is educator extended (designed to build on previous experiences to enhance particular skills or understandings)
Green: indicates where sustainability focus is embedded
Purple: indicating responsiveness to learning and celebrating our children and families cultural identity
We encourage children to participate in a range of activities, both indoors and outdoors and across age-groups. We also support children to use the space and equipment to develop their own spontaneous and interesting self-led experiences.
Parents are kept updated on programmed and spontaneous activities through learning observations posted on the Xplor Home app.
We also frequently organise additional classes to cater for children’s interests. These are often subsided to lower the cost passed on to parents. Skateboarding, yoga, fencing, archery, gymnastics to name a few!
The Educator team follow a cycle of planning to record, respond to and support children’s learning.

After School Classes
A variety of private providers operate after school classes (music lessons, karate, dance, etc) run on the NNPS campus. These classes are administered by the school and all enquiries should be directed to the school office.
Children attending an after school class whilst attending NNOOSH must be signed in and out by the class tutor, and collected and dropped off directly, as clear indication of the transfer of duty of care. We must also know in advance (in writing) of your child’s lesson times and tutor.
Homework
We can provide stationery and quiet areas for children to do homework. While staff may assist, they are not tutors, and their first priority will always be the supervision and safety of all children as well as the delivery of the program. Should your child need to complete homework at NNOOSH they will need to be able to do so independently.
If you wish for your child to do homework at NNOOSH, please email us.
